Would you trade your personal data for free online services?

Internet provides us with thousands of services and applications today, and there are several free online services as well, that everyone would like to use.

In the digital world, information is the only thing that is widely accepted and it is typical to buy and sell data. But the only people who gets profit from these practices are the tech companies, internet and telecoms service providers, developers, and marketing networks that freely trade data about their subscribers and customers.

If you wish to use free online services, however, you have to give up control over some of your personal data. But are the free services worth trading off your personal data?

According to a survey conducted by PCMag, around 44 percent of people are willing to exchange personal data for accessing the public WiFi. When the consumers were asked about what other kinds of free services, they are willing to use in exchange for their personal data, their opinions were fascinating.

As mentioned above, 44 percent would like to access public WiFi as everyone needs to use public Wi-Fi at any time. However, experts suggest to use it cautiously by using a VPN to protect your data from an insecure network.

Around 20 percent of respondents are willing to exchange their personal data for eCommerce such as buying or accessing coupons and deals. 14 percent replied that they would provide personal data to download apps and 13 percent to sign up for social media.

There is 12 percent of people who need to access exclusive streaming content while another 8 percent likes to access exclusive video game content.
